And now I want to write a post or start a chat thread about my issue with one of my characters... It's not like I didn't have enough on my plate already. Well, it's more like a world building problem but it boils down to that single character.
Also, I think Smallville managed to give Superman a well rounded character. Young Clark has flaws and moral dilemmas throughout the series.
True, some of the extended universe material did veer off from the core character in all sorts of different ways. I was more thinking of the Superman from the comics and movies. Even in the comics there are several different timelines and storylines that play around with the basic formula, but I think the Batman stories tend to be more successful at that character work in any case. The core premise there just allows so much more humanity.
What's your issue with your character/worldbuilding (if you don't mind my asking)?
I'm not into comics, but your point stands with the Superman movies. The character is way too perfect. Batman on the other hand has depth.
What isn't? LOL
First, he's a street smart guy. Intelligent but has no formal education which I want to show in the way he speaks. And it's hard, but that's on me. My biggest issue with Ry is that I can't figure out why he hates dragons. And I need him to hate dragons for the plot and world to work. It has to be something rooted deeply, but not too deep that it can't change.
And of course I need to work on the magic system too, but that's another topic.
Awesome article!
